Oens, Ethel (2 February 1885 - 10 July 1963)

 

Funeral services were held Friday for Mrs. Ethel Oens, 78, of Neillsville, who died July 10 in Neillsville. The Rev. Jacob Grether officiated at services from the Georgas Funeral Home.  Burial was made in Yolo Cemetery, Chili.

 

Mrs. Oens, the former Ethel Dow, was born February 2, 1885, in Chili.  She was the daughter of the late Wentworth and Hettie (Dowes) Dow. She was married November 28, 1911, to the late Harry Oens, who died in 1951. She had made the Chili area her home; and with her husband farmed there for six years.  They later moved onto a farm in Cannonville, where they remained until 1951. Following the death of Mr. Oens she moved to Neillsville.

 

Mrs. Oens served on the school board of the Cannonville School for several years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and was an active member of the Ladies Aid.

 

One son, Clyde Oens of Racine, survives Mrs. Oens.  Other survivors are two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Soren Larsen, Oliver Williams, Gordon Sharratt, William Tullis, Elmer Kapfer and William Buddinger, Jr.

 

"The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were sung by Mrs. Irvin Marg and Mrs. Donald Schultz, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

People from away attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Oens, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hansen and Hope Tobin of Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Dow of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Millar and Sandi Millar of Madison; Mrs. Nellie Millar of Waupaca; Mrs. G. A. Pahl of Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schultz of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schecklman of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Feutz, Mrs. Arthur Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer, Mr. and Mrs. William Tullis, Mr. and Mrs. William Buddinger, Jr., and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. William Buddinger, Sr., all of Granton; Mrs. Bertha Meissner, Mrs. Pearle Green, Mrs. Minnie Beil, Mrs. William Bealer, Mrs. Otto Gaulke, Mrs. Herman Montag, Mrs. Gertrude Gildernick, Mrs. Viola Mundt and Mrs. Elmer Steffen, all of the Chili area.
