Wnek, John Sr. (15 NOV 1864 - 29 APR 1959)

 

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church here Saturday morning, May 2, 1959, at ten o’clock for John Wnek Sr., Father Francis Piekarski officiating.  Mr. Wnek passed away of old age infirmities at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Catherine Nowobielski in the city on Wednesday, April 29th, 1959, having reached the ripe old age of 95 years.

 

Mr. Wnek, who was born Nov. 15, 1864, in Poland, came to America in the year 1888 and arrived in this community (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) 65 years ago.  He operated a farm in the town of Withee for 58 years (now in the hands of his son John Jr.) and had spent the past seven years after his retirement with his daughter, Catherine Nowobielski in the city.

 

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, John, Peter and Frank, all of Thorp; four daughters, Cecelia, Mrs. John Keller and Helen, Mrs. John Cekus of Chicago, Anna, Mrs. Mike Strzok and Catherine, Mrs. Andrew Nowobielski of Thorp; 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.  One daughter, Rose, preceded him in death.

 

Burial was made in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were John Cekus, Clarence Nowobielski, Chester Strzok, Bob Wnek, Marian Wnek, and Leon Wnek.

 

Relatives who were here to attend the funeral of the late John Wnek Sr. on May 2nd were: Mr. and Mrs. John Keller and son Larry, Mrs. John Cekus and son John, Mrs. Louise Sobczynski and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rudzena of Chicago.
