W. J. Gerlach and family have moved to Marshfield.

W. W. Smith went to Elroy the first of the week where his brother is seriously ill.

Fred Dankemyer and wife were Granton callers last Monday and to our surprise he went home sober.

Loyal Jordan transacted business in Granton the first of the week.

Iven Kidd is staying a few days with Sam Martin and he prophesies a dry summer.  Iven’s thinking department must be embroidered with red silk as a dry summer would mean Prohibition.

Dick Mundt is around again with his medicine wagon.  Buy your tea of him and you’ll get the early rising habit.

It is  one on Mr. Witte, our cash merchant.  A young lady complained of having a cold, and like a good Samaritan he at once advised that drinking hot water in great quantities would break up a cold immediately.  The young lady smiled when a by-stander interrupted and made the remark that the same remedy was also a cure for dirty feet.  Mr. Witte saw the point and passed the cigars.

If Delbert Latamore would have went up in a baloon about 500 feet and the baloon he trusted busted and he wouldn’t get hurt until he struck the ground, in the extreme it would seem that the heavens have no use for him except in spirit form.  Delbert occasionally likes spirits especially in rye and barley form.  But the form his spirit was in one day last week would prove to some men nightmare for life or sudden death.  Ingrown toe nails or a wart on his heart he stood the test like an offspring of a zebra-donkey.  It seems that he was fixing the school house door one day last week and it being rather late in the evening provided himself with a lantern.  However neighbors were unaware of this fact and at once organized a fire brigade.  The first to arrive was Geo. Ives, Nate Drake and Wellie Davis, all being prepared with water buckets.  Upon their arrival soon discovered their mistake and the supposed fire was the reflection of Latamore’s lantern through the north window.  The excitement caused a great laugh all around and Latamore having two points to the good with the joke on the fire brigade.
