Rogalski, John W. (3 OCT 1892 - 10 DEC 1959)

 

John W. Rogalski, 67, passed away at the hospital at Marshfield Thursday, Ed. 10, 1959, caused by complications following an operation.

 

The deceased was born in Lemont, Ill. on Oct. 3, 1892.  He came to the Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) community with his parents at an early age and attended the local schools.  As he grew to manhood he worked in the logging camps in north woods and also was engaged in farming.

 

He served with the first division in World War I and was in action in France before Soissons and St. Mihiel in July 1918, and in the Argonne Woods Oct. 8 to 12, 1918.  He was sounded in action near Soissons, France on July 19, 1918 in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, and also on Oct. 8, 1918.

 

In 1920 Mr. Rogalski received a Silver Star citation certificate for distinguished and exceptional gallantry in the European conflict.

 

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Ignowski at St. Hedwig’s Church here on Nov. 18, 1919 and operated the farm southeast of Thorp in the Town of Reseburg for many years until retirement two years ago.  The family then resided three miles east of Thorp in the Town of Withee for a year, and since that time lived six miles east of Thorp on Highway 29 in the Town of Withee.

 

Besides his wife, he is survived by seven sons, Stanley of Sacramento, Calif., Chester, Donald and Frederick of Thorp, Johnny of Gilman, Richard of Homestead A.F.B. Florida, and Robert at home, four daughters, Marcella, Mrs. Nick Ciokiewicz, Lio Linda, Calif., Elizabeth, Mrs. Joseph Ciokiewicz, Thorp, Alice, Mrs. Richard Balicki, Chicago; two brothers, Joseph Rogalski, Thorp, and Martin Rogalski, Withee; one sister, Helen, Mrs. Anton Jarosz of Thorp, and 19 grandchildren.  One son, Clarence, a brother frank, and a sister, Eva Langiewicz, preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Disher at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Monday morning, Dec. 14tth, and interment took place in the family lot in St. Hedwig’s Old Cemetery.  Military rites were accorded the deceased at the grave by Cecil Tormey Post No. 116 of the American Legion of Thorp, with a salute by the firing squad and the sounding of taps.  Pallbearers were Tom Podriaszek, Frank Sierocuk, Bill Vanderhyden, John Barth, Joe Benzschawel, and Stanley H. ??
