Lifelong Grant Residents in Golden Wedding Observance
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Drescher, parents of Neillsville’s police chief Lawrence Drescher and life-long residents of Clark County, observed their Golden wedding anniversary with a gathering at the American Legion Memorial Hall in Neillsville last Saturday night.
The parents of four living children, both of the couple were born in the Town of Grant, where they have made their home throughout their lives. The Dreschers still are living on the farm on which they started married life, four and one-half miles east of Neillsville, but are no longer working the farm.
They were married in the Methodist parsonage in Marshfield on December 31, 1913, with the Rev. Arthur Coran conducting the ceremony. Witnesses were the Rev. Mr. Coran’s daughters, Mary and Viroqua Coran.
Mrs. Drescher was the eldest of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gerzmehle, and attended the Roder School, near Prust’s Corner, south of Granton. A sister, Mrs. Ed Lautenbach of Granton, and a brother, Louis Gerzmehle of Bradenton, Fla., are living. Another sister, Emma, died in 1908.
Mr. Drescher was the youngest of seven children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Drescher. The only other survivor of that group is a sister, Mrs. Ida Pohlkamp of Neillsville.
They are the parents of four children: Lawrence, who is Neillsville’s police chief; Leonard, of Rt. 1, Neillsville; Mrs. Arvid (Jeanette) Watenpuhl of Rt. 2 Neillsville; and Mrs. Ervin (Evelyn) Silkey of Marshfield. A fifth child, Stanley, died at the age of five.
There are also, seven grandchildren: Harold and Lee, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Drescher; Steven, Thomas and Virginia, children of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Drescher; and Marilyn and Barbara, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Watenpuhl.
A three-tiered wedding cake was baked especially for the celebration by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leonard Drescher.
In addition to members of the family and area friends, those from out-of-town attending the observance included: Mr. and Mrs. Donald Drescher of Greenwood; Miss Sharon Drescher of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Lautenbach of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Drescher of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Gerzmehle, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gerzmehle, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gerzmehle and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Witt, all of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lautenbach and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schlinsog, all of Granton.
