North Jackson County (23 January 1964)

 

Mrs. Roger Burnett of Alma Center is a surgical patient in Black River Falls.

 

Mrs. Bert Winters of Alma Center is spending several days with relatives in St. Paul and Minneapolis.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Buster Lea and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Lea of Alma Center were in Milwaukee last week to attend a mink breeder’s convention.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Bowen of Black River Falls visited one day last week at the Ray Bowen home in Millston.

 

Students of District Jt. No. 2 Black River Falls had a vacation January 20, while their teachers attended an in-service training program. There are five such programs during the school year.

 

Mrs. Mildred Regez and Mrs. Alma Melby of Hixton were hostesses Monday evening when the Taylor-Hixton auxiliary met in the Legion Hall in Hixton.

 

Mrs. Florence Gilbertson, former editor and publisher of the Melrose Chronicle, has retired from active participation in publishing of the paper. She had been in the newspaper business for over 20 years; Mrs. Gilbertson plans to marry, P. E. Griffin, a retired businessman of Milwaukee.  They plan to spend the remainder of the winter in Florida.

 

Births: a son to Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Perry of Black River Falls; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Waughtal of Black River Falls.

 

Four Jackson County men have enlisted in the armed forces.  They are: James L. Jarrett, Willard E. Lamon, Roger D. Bandell and Melvin Gilbertson.  All four are taking basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.

 

Deaths: Harvey Carpenter, 80; Christine Erickson, 78.
