Herbert White and family are making the home folks a visit.

Lawyer Kountz and Chas. Kopka were up from Neillsville Sunday for a few hours.

 

Miss Ollie Rand of Greenwood is attending business college here. -- Neillsville Times.

 

Mrs. Sam St. John of Owen is spending a few days this week with her mother and family.

 

Come in and enjoy a treat by listening to the new Edison phonograph at the City Drug Store.

 

Franklin Burroughs went to Tomah Sunday where a sister who died last week in Bristol, S.D., was buried.

 

Alfred Kristiansen, the hustling Withee-Owen druggist was a Greenwood visitor over Thursday night.

 

Pat Lyden was over from near Globe Monday looking for his 12-year-old boy who ran away from his place Sunday.

 

Hastings Baird is home from Maplehurst where he has been running the saw for the Squaw Creek Lumber Co.

 

Sunday was the first real warm day we have had this spring when one wished they had their summer underwear on.

 

Mrs. L. Decker of greenwood visited today with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Kippenhan, in this village. -- Loyal Tribune

 

Mrs. C.C. Hoehne and son George Carl returned home Saturday morning after spending several weeks with relatives in Dodge county and other points.

 

John Mack and his wife returned to Shell Lake Monday, but the Gleaner expects sooner or later to chronicle their returning to Greenwood, their first love.

 

Mrs. Roy Henethum and son Howard Stevens arrived yesterday from Freeport, Ill. for a visit under the parental roof. Now Pete will have other interests than Woodmen hall to keep him jolly.

 

Mr. and Mrs H.M. Root, accompanied by Miss Carrie Palliser and Master Lyman Smith, came up from Neillsville Sunday and visited at the home of John Shanks til Monday afternoon.

 

The Williams and Clark entertainment was poorly attended Saturday night. The musical features by Mr. and Mrs. Williams were fine, the latter certainly take the cake in manipulating the bones,

 

F.W. Shrimpton and family left Saturday for a visit with relatives in Nebraska. They expect to be gone about four weeks. Otto Pellwitz will have charge of the mail during his absence.

 

John T. Drummond and Geo. W. Bishop were down to Neillsville Monday night attending a communication of the Masonic lodge there, at which Grand Master Farr of Eau Claire was present.

 

H.H. Baublit has bills out announcing the placing of his place of forty acres for sale at public auction next Monday, the 20th. He wants to go to Missouri where they have warmer weather.

 

Louis Siebold and Ed Geisler were over to Marshfield Saturday visiting with the former’s brother Harry in the hospital. Harry is improving so that it is expected he can come home within a few days.

 

Rev. W.D. Cox, state chairman of the Prohibition Committee will be in Greenwood and address public meetings in the M.E. church next Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, May 21 and 22. The public is invited.

 

It is to say the least something of a coincidence that this warm weather came simultaneously with the first efforts of Dr. Schofield and his father to run the new automobile, out in the back pasture last Sunday.

 

From pretty reliable sources it is learned that dynamiting of fish is going on in the upper waters of Rock creek. This is dangerous business for the ones doing it, to say nothing of the wantonly useless destruction of fish by so doing.

 

At the meeting of the Lady Maccabees Monday evening, Mrs. Maggie Johnson was elected record keeper in place of Mrs. Forest Shanks who with her husband has moved to Fond du Lac. Mrs. Mary Pfunder was elected delegate to attend the annual meeting at La Crosse, Mrs J.C. Baker being her alternate.

 

A.M. Krause is doing quite a business with birthday cards, as a sideline to his souvenir postal card business. The design consists of a picture of various kinds of flowers, in bouquets, neatly set in a background of appropriate colors, leaving room for name of sender, etc. He already has orders for large quantities and no doubt will work up a large business.

 

 

About twenty-five friends gathered at the home of Mrs. H.H. Hartson Tuesday afternoon in a surprise party for Mrs. Jane Towle, who leaves in a few days for Oldham, South Dakota to remain indefinitely. Just before the elaborate luncheon -- for Mrs. Burch, Mrs. Johnson and a few others, a big supper -- was served Mrs. Towle was presented with a handsome leather traveling bag, Mrs. Bowen making the presentation speech in a few well chosen words. It was an occasion that will be long and pleasantly remembered by all present.

Joe Christie has rented the Neville place for pasture.

 

Wesley Wendt visited theodore Meinhardt Sunday.

 

Jas. Tompkins made a business trip to Neillsville Friday.

 

Mrs. Jas. Syth is entertaining company from Stevens Point.

 

Mrs. H.H. Wendt visited Mr. Pagelsdorf’s folks Sunday.

 

Some of the farmers have their corn planted while others are waiting or corn weather.

 

Fur coats, woolen blankets, good fires are still in use and it is almost June, something unheard of before.

 

Ed Weast took home material to paint his large barn, Saturday. He intends doing the work himself as it appears impossible to get painters now.

 

Last Friday evening a pleasant time was had at the Meinhardt home in honor of Otto’s birthday. River Square folks and many others assembled to remind him of the occasion. Good music, supper, and dancing was very much enjoyed by all present.

Mr. Didman is having a new barn built.

 

James Boon had a frame barn raised last Friday.

 

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Robinson on May 15th a daughter.

 

Len Shaw made a business trip to Marshfield a few days ago.

 

Mr. and Mr. Albert Neis are keeping house in the Orson Morse house.

 

Mr. Nels’ people have been receiving a visit from John Gansen from Prairie du Sac.

 

Mrs. Chris Brick of Minneapolis is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs Orlo Robinson.

 

The social at the church last Thursday was not largely attended. Proceeds were nearly two dollars.

 

The Aid society will meet next with Mrs Julius Bhousac on Thursday June 6 for supper, everybody invited.

 

The house on the Wm. Schulz farm, now owned by Thos. Lowe of Neillsville burned down last Monday afternoon, Mr. Cramer’s people who were living in the house and working for Mr. Lowe, lost all their clothing and nearly all of their household goods.

Wm. Goodwin had the misfortune to lose one of his horses Sunday morning.

 

Otto Geisler has improved his place with a new wind mill and water tank.

 

Joe Foust is improving his place by putting a wire fence around what he has cleared.

 

Harry Seibold will come home Thursday from the hospital where he has been for the last month.

 

Ross Goodwin, who has been under the doctor’s care the past two weeks, is considerably better now.

 

Wm. Braun got all ready to go to work on the basement for his barn but the stone masons did not come when they agreed to

 

E.T. Campbell has traded land that he had down by Gemmeke’s for the hard wood land that Walter Baker owned, better known as the Hanson place.

W.J. Rush and wife are very happy over the arrival of a little boy at their home.

 

Mrs. Wallace Allen went to Fredrick Saturday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Walsh.

 

The Ladies Aid of Rutger chapter came over and met with Mrs Heaslet Thursday afternoon.

 

John Binder received a severe kick from a horse Sunday and is in a critical condition at the present writing.

 

Memorial services were held in M.E. church Sunday morning, Rev. Towne delivering a most excellent sermon.

 

Obit: Vetter, Frank

Frank Vetter died at his home on Monday morning. He had bee a great sufferer for about a year with cancer on his face.

 

Obit: Walls

Grandma Walls died at her home south of Loyal on Sunday evening at 4 o’clock. She had been sick only a week. The cause of her death was pneumonia and heart trouble. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon.
