News: Clark Co Historical Society to Observe Anniversary (1975)

The Clark County Historical Society met Thursday morning at the Clark Electric Auditorium in Greenwood. It was the first meeting following the winter recess.

The various activities during the winter months were reviewed.

Suggested plans for observing the 100th anniversary of the society were discussed. Included were store window displays in each of the cities and village in the county, a banquet and a parade.

Plans for observing the bicentennial were also discussed.

Following the business meeting slides of the society projects and workers at the Colby museum site, along with other scenes were shown.

Mrs. Elmer Kuester, Mrs. Marie Vajgrt, and Mrs. Emma Gempeler were in charge of the lunch.

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. Haas were rejoicing over the birth of a baby daughter, Michelle Renee, born February 24, 1975 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls. The little miss tipped the scales at 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burzynski and Mr. and Mrs. Casper Haas Jr., all of Thorp. Congratulations - Judy and Dick.

A surprise Anniversary party was held at the Melbourn Haas home on Sunday in honor of the 61st Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Haas. A large group of family and friends were in attendance.

Kroll, Frank (28 Jan 1904 – 18 Mar 1975)

Frank Kroll died at Sacred Heart Hospital March 18, 1975. He was buried March 21, 1975 at St. Hedwig’s New Cemetery.

Mr. Kroll, a retired farmer, was born January 28, 1904 in the Town of Withee, where he farmed all his live. After retiring 3 years ago he lived in the city of Thorp. He was married to Anna Jaskot at St. Hedwig’s Church, May 17, 1932.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Polish National Alliance. He served as town supervisor and town chairman in the Town of Withee.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, one daughter, Delores Kowalczyk of Brookfield, Illinois, one son, Robert of Thorp, 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Cegielnik of Owen and Ann Stanichek of Kisbey, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Stanley and Joe, and one sister, Mary.

Pallbearers were his brothers-in-law, Fred Stanichuk, Gene Procak, Leonard Sterocinski, Mitch Sosnecki, Edward Duch, and Leonard Jaskot.

Jarosz, Anton J. (17 May, 1881 – 13 Mar 1975)

Anton J. Jarosz, 93, died at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Wausau of pneumonia. Mr. Jarosz, a retired farmer, was born May 17, 1881 in Pilzno, Poland. He came to the state in 1899. In 1904 he united in marriage to Helena Rogalski at St. Hedwig’s Church, Thorp. He farmed for 30 years in the Town of Reseburg, and has been retired for 28 years in the city of Thorp. For the past year he has been in a nursing home in Wausau.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Chapel on March 15, 1975, with Rev. Puerner officiating at the ten a.m. service. Burial was made in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were al sons-in-law: Charles Mas, Steve Durianski, John Dziedzie, Stanley Lakomy, Ted Skora and George Pesek.

He is survived by three sons, Nick Jarosz of Cicero, Illinois, Peter Jarosz of Berwyn, Illinois, John Jarosz of Wausau, Wisconsin; six daughters, (Stella) Mrs. Charles Mas, Cicero, Illinois, (Rose) Mrs. Steve Durianski, (Ann) Mrs. John Sziedziec, (Bernice) Mrs. Stanley Lakomy, and (Louis) Mrs. Ted Skora, all of Chicago, (Julie) Mrs. George Pesek of Brookfield, Illinois; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helena and one sons Joseph, 3 brothers and two sisters.

(Note: John Dziedzie, a pallbearer, and John Sziedziec, a son-in-law must be the same person. I don’t know the correct spelling)

News: Eidsvold - Local News (18 Aug 1900)

Miss Cook has returned to Unity. Farmers are harvesting their grain between showers.

Baxter’s Hotel is now known as the Marshfield house.

Landlord Baxter entertained friends from Marshfield last week.

A social dance at M. M. McCafferty’s Saturday night, is reported.

Mrs. L. Bruno of the town of Withee was an Eidsvold caller last week.

Born, to Mr. and Mrs. (Josephine "Josie") Willis Peterson on the 9th inst., a daughter (Ida E Peterson).

Mr. Barber resumed his old place in the school house on Monday last.

Several of our citizens spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Pike Lake,

Miss Nellie Cannon is here from S.D. visiting with her aunt Mrs. Craig.

Several of our young people attended a dance at Reseberg Saturday night. The Union Sunday School, the oldest religious society in Eidsvold has suspended operations for a time at least.

We understand the bloods went to Pike lake on Sunday last, three or four returning with a good supply of bull heads.

Jas. Timlin, Leu Hutchins and Jess Poquette started for the harvest fields last week. They report good wages in North Dakota.

Mr. and Mrs. Caton, Dan Chas. of of Eau Claire, and Frank Hadley of Chippewa Falls were visitors at A. J. Hadley’s over Sunday,

Three boys, sons of a farmer living near here, during the absence of their parents one day last week, put on their Sunday clothes and “ skipped ” , They intended to see the world, but were recognized in Stanley and detained until their parents came after them.

School Notes: T. F. Crowley of Thorp, began the fall term in the Kern districts on Monday. Maggie Burns of Worden, has been engaged to teach another year in Gorman district. A new district comprising territory now embraced in numbers three and four, is talked of.
