Tofte, Jesse P. #2 (26 FEB 1890 - 29 SEP 1961)

Final rites were held for Jesse P. Tofte, 71, Tuesday from the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, at 2:00 o’clock.  Rev. Beryl Knudsen was in charge of the burial service, with interment being made in the parish cemetery.  Pallbearers were Sam and Jens Andersen, Roy Segerstrom, Albert Jensen, Wilbur Klepel and Ed Erickson.

Born Feb. 26, 1890, in Denmark, Jesse Tofte came to this country as a young man and made his home most of his life at Racine, where he served as an inspector for the Walker Corp. until his retirement six years ago when he and his wife moved to Withee and later to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) about a year ago.

For the past several months his health had been failing rapidly with death coming to him peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Saturday, Sept. 29th, 1961.

His passing is mourned by his wife, Lillian Christensen, whom he married Dec. 5, 1945, at Racine; two nieces, Mrs. Albert Mertens, Racine and Mrs. Loren Spain, Union Grove, Wis., one nephew, Albert Petersen, Racine, and a daughter, Ida Mae Smith of California.  A son was killed in action while serving in World War II.
