Mengel, Ida R. (27 JUL 1877 - 13 OCT 1961)

 

Born July 24, 1877, in the Town of Hixon, Clark County, Mrs. Jacob R. Mengel, nee Ida R. Goodwin, a pioneer resident of this community, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 1961, at the Havenet Nursing Home.  She was 84 years, 2 months and 19 days of age.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon from the First Congregational Church, Owen.  Rev. Ralph Claybaugh, parish pastor, read the final rites, with burial being made alongside her husband, who passed away in 1959, in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Dick Jorgensen, Harold and Kenneth Bingham, Donovan mengel, Joe Thill and Joe Thill Jr.  Great-granddaughters carried the floral offerings.

 

She was united in marriage tot eh late Jacob Mengel on Nov. 23, 1906 at Cadott, Wis.  The couple made their home on the homestead farm in the Town of Hixon until their retirement in 1925, when they moved to Owen.

 

Survivors include one son, Orville of Owen; three daughters, Mrs. John (Isabelle) Lukowicz, Owen, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Pankow, Withee, and Mrs. John (Violet) Thill, Eau Claire; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Coreau of the state of Washington, and Mrs. Elta Fredrickson, British Columbia, Canada; five brothers, George Goodwin, Hood River Oregon, Menzel, Rollo, Leo and John Goodwin, all of Alberta, Canada; 18 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Relatives and friends from out of town that attended the service were Mr. and Mrs. John Thill Sr., Eau Claire; Mrs. Carl Pankow, Withee; Mrs. Ella Mengel, Ogema; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Probst Sr., New Auburn; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mengel, Fort Worth, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thill, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thill and family, White Bear Lake, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bingham, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Lenser, Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bingham, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. William Norris, Watertown, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jorgensen, Milwaukee.
