Chili (18 August 1911)

Herman Ketel has got the job of plastering O. F. Sampe’s house.  The material used will be the cement rock wood fibre for sale at Degener’s. This wood fibre can be used with sand, is cheaper than the pulp and far superior in lasting quality.

Dick Mundt had a bad accident last week. While leaving Chili going west with his medicine outfit, a bolt either broke or fell out, letting one end of the pole down and onto the colts heels.  This scared his horses and making a jump upset the wagon and finally breaking both single trees.  This let the horses loose that ran into a barbed wire fence where they received awful cuts on their forelegs.  They were caught and the wagon set right and fixed up, so Dick could get home.  It will be a little while before Dick can get out again with his wagon.  It is lucky that he himself did not get hurt.

Mrs. Maach and Miss Rahn made a pleasant call on Mrs. Miller at Marshfield this week.

Quite a number from here attended the mission festival at Mapleworks. The weather was pleasant and a nice time was had as well as profitable for the mind.

A carload of cement was sold here this week.

It is rumored that Mr. Behringer has bought the land owned by Mrs. Stewart south of the depot.

Mrs. L. A. Reichert returned Sunday night from her visit with her sister.

The Woodmen will give a dance at the opera hall on Saturday evening, August 26.  Gehrhardt’s Orchestra will furnish the music; supper will be served at J. F. Henning’s.

Albert Fenske was a Granton caller Saturday.
