Steele, Carlene A. (23 June 1933 - 22 December 2011)

Carlene A. Steele, 78, of Baraboo, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at St. Clare Hospice House.

She was born June 23, 1933, in Thorp, the daughter of Villemonte and Pauline (Bogumill) Stoker.  Carlene was united in marriage to Edward "Bud" L. Steele on November 17, 1956, in Madison. The couple lived in Madison until 1974, when they relocated to Briggsville.

Carlene had been employed as a food service supervisor for several school districts. Being an avid reader, her favorite expression was, "A house without books is like a room without windows."  She also enjoyed traveling, but most especially spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bud; her children: James (Bonnie) Steele, Steve Steele, Edward (Jodi) Steele, Susan (David) Ditter, Jeff (Cathy) Steele, and Dan Steele; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; her brothers: Tom Stoker and Bill (Marion) Stoker; her sister, Pat (Fran) Semrad; and other relatives and friends.

In accordance with Carlene’s wishes, private family services will be held at a later date.  Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo is assisting with arrangements.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Kilbourn Library in Wisconsin Dells.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Clare Hospice House for their excellent care.
