Granton (4 June 1964)

Louis Elmhorst, Sr., has purchased the H. C. Witte residence and is in the process of razing an old barn on the property. The barn, built well over 60 years ago, has been a landmark in the village.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Engstrum of Woodstock, Ill, arrived Friday for a visit with relatives near Spencer.  Later that same night Mr. Engstrum, 59, died suddenly in his sleep. Burial took place Tuesday in Woodstock.  He was a brother of Erland Engstrum, who was visiting at the Guk home in Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Trimberger arrived Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Trimberger. Dale, who is attending Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Ill., will serve this coming year as vicar in various communities.  They plan to leave within a few days for Menasha at a summer vicarage in Trinity Lutheran Church.  In the fall he will be located at Rochester, N. Y.

Mrs. Walter Trimberger left Thursday for Fargo, N. D., for the annual reunion of the Skar sisters. This year’s reunion is being held at the home of Mrs. Gena Bratten. Sisters attending besides Mrs. Bratten are: Mrs. Odin Wang of Danville, Ill., Mrs. A. O. Johnson of Birchwood, and Mrs. Trimberger. A fifth sister, Mrs. Bertha Kronhelm of Lockport, Ill., died last fall.

Several out of town people were in Granton to attend funeral services for Mrs. Edward Schroeder Monday.  Among them were: Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nielsen and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schroeder of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Schroeder and Jessie Davis of Racine; Mrs. Gladys Schultz of Beloit; Mrs. Schroeder’s only sister, Mrs. Grace Wallace, sons and daughters and their families of Janesville.

Mrs. Jessie Davis of Racine was a weekend house guest of Mrs. Ethel Berg.

Raymond Smith of Milwaukee spent the holiday weekend with his brother, Verne Smith, and his family.

Mrs. Raymond H. Meier of Cushing, Ia., is spending this week with her son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. Evan Dieck, and their family.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mundt of Milwaukee, who are spending a week with Mrs. Amelia Mundt in Chili, were Thursday afternoon guests of Mrs. Charles Guk.

Thursday to Sunday guests of Mrs. Charles Guk were her nephews and nieces.  They included: Clarence Neinas of Chili, Mr. and Mrs. Art Neinas of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Seitzinger of Washington, D. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Erland Engstrum of Chicago.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burnett and family of Lansing, Mich., spent the weekend at the Lloyd Spry home and visited her father, Mr. Spry, who is a hospital patient in Marshfield.  Mrs. Spry, who has been with him since he entered the hospital, last week, returned home Saturday afternoon, but makes frequent trips there.

Miss Elaine Trimberger, who teaches in a parochial school in Menasha, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Trimberger and with her brother and is wife.

Horace Hack of Marshfield, a former Granton resident is undergoing observation in a Marshfield hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ayala and children of Chicago were holiday weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fero.

Mr. and Mrs. William Morley and family have gone to Shelby, Mont., for a visit of several days with Mr. Morley’s parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hanson and children spent Memorial Day in Taylor with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. William Berg.
