Laabs, Lydia #4 (14 FEB 1876 - 2 APR 1962)

 

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Green Grove for Mrs. Lydia Laabs, age 86, who died Monday evening, April 2, 1962 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glenzer of route 1, Owen, of old age complications.

 

The Rev. Howard Timmerman officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were five grandsons and one nephew, Rolland Knecht, Donald Poppe, Delmond Olson, Hubert Glenzer Jr., Dale Bowen and Vernon Sommer.

 

Mrs. Howard Timmerman sang "Asleep in Jesus" and the Ladies Aid, of which she was the only surviving charter member, sang "Abide with Me."  Mrs. Elaine Boss accompanied them at the organ.

 

The former Lydia Sommer was born Feb. 14, 1876, in Sheboygan Co.  Her parents moved to the Town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.) in the year 1880, on a farm which is now known as the Vernon Sommer farm.

 

On August 25, 1898 she was united in marriage to Ernst Laabs who died Jan. 26, 1906.  Surviving are a daughter, Hilda, Mrs. Hubert Glenzer of rural Owen, a brother, Theodore Sommer of rural Unity, and a sister, Pauline, Mrs. Paul Woik of rural Owen.  Six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.

 

Besides her husband, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Cox, Mrs. Anna Sommer, Mrs. Anita Stoeker, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Sommer, Neenah; Mrs. Milton Porah, Suring; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hoge, Miss Lenora Olson, Mr. Jonathon Olm, Reedsville; Mrs. Emil Waak, Mrs. A.R. Drill, Manitowoc; Mrs. C.C. Brick, Herman Olm, Brillion; Mrs. Hulda Draheim, Chilton; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olm, Sheboygan Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Olm, Cleveland; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Whitman, William Laabs, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Laabs, Oshkosh; Mrs. Leonard Wachsmuth, Mrs. Rudy Heier, Mrs. Frank Zeich, Wausau, and many other relatives and friends from Unity, Greenwood, Colby, Dorchester, Withee, Curtiss, Athens, Abbotsford and Owen area.
