Winters, Jennie (3 March 1869 - 6 July 1964)

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Thomas (Jennie) Winters, 95, of Neillsville, who died here Monday.  The Rev. Oscar Nichols of the Neillsville Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Winters, the former Jennie Short, was born March 3, 1869, in Vresco, Ia.  Her parents were the late James and Marcia Ann (Fuller) Short.  Her mother died when she was nine years old and she went to live with her grandparents in Cambridge.  She received part of her education there.

She came to the Washburn area with her grandmother, where she attended the Washburn School for a term. It was here that she met Mr. Winters, whom she later married on June 28, 1893.

They farmed for many years in the Shortville area and also operated the Shortville Store for 25 years. In 1925, Mr. and Mrs. Winters moved to Neillsville.  In May of this year they entered Memorial Home, and about a week ago she was transferred to the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Winters last year observed their 70th wedding anniversary. They had planned to celebrate their 71st anniversary in Memorial Home, but by June 28, she had entered the hospital.  A quiet observance was held by their children who visited her on that day.

She is survived by her husband, who is 96; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Anita) Wall, Mrs. Irving (Gladys) Stevens and Mrs. James (Merrille) Vincent, all of Neillsville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Winters was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Women’s Relief Corps (WRC).
