Poehnelt, Joseph (15 JULY 1922-03 JAN 2012)

 

Joseph A. Poehnelt, 89, Loyal, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at his home. Funeral services were held at 11a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyl. Rev. Keith Kitzhaber officiated. Burial followed in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Zvolena, Paul Zvolena, Rob Peohnelt, Tom Peohnelt, Jason Poehnelt, Darrin Wearing, David Nestler and Andre Poehnelt.

 

Joseph Aloysius Poehnelt was born on July 15, 1922, in Medford, the son of Carl and Mary (nee Ramskuler) Poehnelt. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Medford area. After completing his education, he served in the Merchant Marines. He married Irene A. Wiersgalla on May 1, 1946, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Medford. They farmed on his parents’ farm from 1946-54, at which time they moved to Loyal. Joe owned and operated Loyal Oil Company until retiring in 1987. He also worked for Rinka Funeral Home, currently Cuddie Funeral Home, for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Loyal School Board. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, bowling, woodworking/crafts and playing cards.

 

He will be dearly missed by his children, Sharon (Vern) Volovsek, Rice Lake, Sandy (Byron) Nestler, Cordova, Tenn., Renee Lebkicker, Severn. Md., Jerry (Joan) Poehnelt, Eagle, Duane (Julie) Poehnelt, Loyal, Dean (Shirley) Poehnelt, Reston, Va., Pat (Ted) Zvolena, Loyal, Mike (Tiki) Poehnelt, DeForest, Bonnie Duda, Phoenix, Ariz., Terri (Tony) Inhof, Hartland, and Darla (Alan) Helvig, Glendale, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo (Lita) Poehnelt, Abbotsford; one sister, Tina Pillar, Medford; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene, on Sept. 12, 2010; one granddaughter, Dawn Lebkicker; four sisters, Mary Kuenne, Ann Tom, Theresa Kuenne and Agnes Williams; and four brothers, Carl, John, Frank, and Bill Poehnelt.
