Bender, Ruth (Marriage - 1 August 1964)

Marriage vows were exchanged Saturday in the York Center Methodist Church by Miss Ruth Bender, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bender of Granton, and Thomas A. Strey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Strey of Loyal.

The Rev. Paul Doering of Loyal officiated at a double ring ceremony.  Nuptial music was played by Mrs. Milford Rowe, and who also accompanied Mrs. Paul Doering as she sang, "O Perfect Love". Bouquets of white gladioli graced the altar.

For her wedding the bride chose a floor-length gown of Peau de soie with overlay of Chantilly lace on the fitted bodice. The Sabrina neckline was jewel trimmed.  Lace appliqués were scattered over the front of the full skirt, the back being accented by lace edged ruffles.  Her fingertip veil of French illusion was secured to a Queen’s crown of pearls and aurora borealis crystals. She carried a bouquet of red carnations.

Her bridal aides were Miss Janet Rector of Highland Park, Ill., maid-of-honor, and Mrs. Richard Strey of Loyal, bridesmaid.  They were attired in ballerina length gowns of lace over taffeta in shades of orchid and pink. They carried fan bouquets of yellow carnations.

Ronald Jacobi was bestman.  Richard Strey served as groomsman. Another brother, Harry Strey, and Leonard Reich were ushers.

Susan Strey, dressed in a lace-trimmed white gown and veil and carrying a basket of roses and snapdragons, was the flower girl.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s home, followed by a shower and dance in the evening.

Guests from out of town attending were: Mr. and Mrs. John Jalling of Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nichols of Chicago; Miss Janet Rector of Highland Park, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Haelen of Clarendon Hills, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Haelen of West Allis; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Johanknecht, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johanknecht and Judy, all of Waupun; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Klein and family of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Rudy Horvat and daughters of Willard.  Other guests were from Granton, Loyal, and Neillsville.
