Washburn (10 December 1964)


Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pretsch and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hanson had a new automatic yard light installed a few weeks ago.  Mr. and Mrs. Allan Voigt and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith had their new yard lights installed last week.  These lights go on and off with the sunset and sunrise, and give a bright blue-white light. They are called "Security Lights."


Mrs. Robert Spiegel will entertain the Washburn Homemakers club today (Thursday) with dinner served at noon. Theis will be the annual Christmas party. Secret pals will be revealed with their Christmas gifts.  Each member is to take something for entertainment.


Mrs. Elmer Kapfer will entertain the Cannonville Ladies Aid December 17, with dinner served at noon. This will also be their Christmas party, with each lady bringing a 50-cent Christmas gift to exchange. Each member is to take something for entertainment.


Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Havlicek were Sunday supper guests at the Charles Havlicek, Jr. home, honoring the birthdays of Charles Havlicek, Jr., and daughter, Dianne.


Several from this vicinity attended the funeral of Harvey Logan Bender, 97, in Granton Tuesday morning. He lived in the Cannonville area for many years.


Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Scholtz, Mr. and Mrs. Art Short, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Krause, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short helped Mrs. William Tullis celebrate her birthday Friday night.


Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Spiegel, Mr. and Mrs. John Reinart, Mrs. Eugene Simmons, Mrs. Don Hoover, Mrs. Claude Kyle, Mrs. Adolph Mazourek, Mrs. Alf Spiegel and Mrs. William Matousek attended their circle Christmas party at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Sunday night. They exchanged Christmas gifts.


Art Noah did some outside work at the Christ Feutz home last week, preparing for the cold weather.


It begins to look like our winter has come to stay. After our lovely mild fall weather, it takes time for us to get used to the cold weather.


Mrs. Harry Kissling spent last week with her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Skip Lee, in Milwaukee.


Mrs. Elmer Kapfer attended a dinner and Christmas party at the Granton Methodist Church Thursday.  This was sponsored by the ladies of the church.


Mr. and Mrs. Art Short called at the Ralph Short home Sunday evening.


Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kuhn were Sunday dinner guests at the Ernest Kuhn home.


Lewis Scholtz assisted William Tullis with cutting wood Friday.


Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams were Sunday afternoon visitors at the Victor St. John home.


Judy Kuhn of Eau Claire spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kuhn.


Mr. and Mrs. William Poler were Thursday dinner guests at the Oliver Williams home.


Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stevens were Sunday afternoon visitors at the Ralph Short home.  Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams were in Marshfield Saturday.
