Alice Stargardt, 68, of Neillsville, formerly of Marshfield, died Friday, March 2, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Alice Anne Zurn was born on April 21, 1943, in Marshfield, the daughter of Sylvester and Evelyn (Schaefer) Zurn. She attended school in Marshfield and graduated from Columbus High School. On Dec. 26, 1964, she was united in marriage to David Stargardt at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Marshfield. Two years later, they welcomed a daughter, Janet to their family and six months after that Alice began working at the Marshfield Clinic. Her career at the Clinic lasted for 43 years, where she went from being a stenographer when she started in 1966, to typing research grants for doctors, when she retired on May 1, 2009. For years, Alice and Dave had spent time on their property in Neillsville and in 2009, they moved there permanently.

Alice was a member of the Living Hope Evangelical Free Church family in Neillsville. She enjoyed camping and 4-wheeling, but most of all she enjoyed spending time, playing games and attending school events with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dave, one daughter, Janet (Scot) Kapusta, of Neillsville; four grandchildren, Justin, Cordell, Janalee and Isabella Kapusta; her mother, Ev. Zurn of Marshfield; two sisters, Joann (Ron) Schallock of Apple Valley, Minn. and Mary (Harry) Bengry of Sioux Falls, S.D.; her beloved cat, Pushet; and also many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sylvester "Boppie"
