Chili (15 December 1911)

Mr. L. N. Hungerford had a narrow escape from getting hurt on the railroad right here in town. He was driving or rather going to drive across when the local made its appearance. Not being noticed by Mr. Hungerford, when the horse turned just as the train was there, thus saving the lives of Mr. Hungerford and Fred Brown who was riding with him.  In turning so quick the right fore wheel of the milk wagon broke and also the thills, but nobody got hurt.

Spring cutters, all up-to-date at Degener’s; also the Western King Gasoline engine; up-to-date in every respect.  This machine does not sell by the pound, but by the work.  Guaranteed and protected by the makers.

Several horses around here have been catching cold.  It seems to be spreading.

Miss Hillert from Town Grant was visiting with Mrs. A. Degener Wednesday.

Quite a number of our citizens enjoyed a visit at Mr. and Mrs. C. Behringer’s, staying with them until almost early.

The Chili R. N. A. held their annual election of officers Wednesday, Dec. 6.  The following were elected: Oracle, Elizabeth Phillips; Vice Oracle, Emma Brooks; Recorder, Mattie J. Waterman; Receiver, Bessie Davis; Chancellor, Cassie Graham; Marshal, Josie Koser, Inner Sentinel, Rose Schuster; Outer Sentinel, Laura Duvall.

Now is the time to place your order for a piano or organ; easy payments.  I have a second hand piano which I will sell for $40, see H. Koser
