Ward, Mrs. Cecil A. (? - 26 AUG 1960)

Mrs. Cecil A. Ward, wife of the Methodist minister at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), died of a heart attack Friday morning, Aug. 26, 1960, at their home in Kingston on Thames, England.

Rev. and Mrs. Ward left the United Sates early in June for a 4 month stay in England.

Nancy Lindquist, Thorp and a friend July Olson, Rice Lake, spent the summer touring western Europe and visited the Ward’s on Thursday, Aug. 25.  Nancy relates the following which will be of interest to those who knew Mrs. Ward.

"When we arrived in Englad from France Thursday we planned on going to see Rev. and Mrs. Ward at their Lame in Kingston on Thames before going into London.  Kingston is a beautiful place about 25 miles from London, so when we reached the city I called the Ward’s and Mr. Ward directed us to their home.  We arrived about 2:30 p.m. and wre warmly welcomed and spent the afternoon there, and were invited to stay for high tea, which was really a 5:30 dinner.  The woman next door came in and prepared the meal as Mrs. Ward was not well, having had 2 or 3 previous heart attacks since being home.  Rev. Ward took us out to view the grounds and said he was very concerned as Mrs. Ward seemed to be getting weaker day by day.  Mrs. Ward visited with us and showed us around the house.  She has so many lovely dishes and furnishings, and their home is lovely.

Rev. Ward was much interested in my little Austin car, as he thought Mrs. Ward might enjoy the drives.  He has been preaching in various places in Cornwall, but having no car, could not take her along.

Rev. Ward telephoned and made reservations at a hotel in London for Thursday night, and Friday forenoon we drove about sightseeing.  When we returned to the hotel later in the day there was a message marked urgent, so I called and talked to Rev. Ward, who said Mrs. Ward died about 8 a.m. Friday morning.  She had slept and slipped peacefully away.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 24.  Burial was in the Resurrection Cemetery.

Rev. Ward said he intended to return to the United States as planned and would be in the pulpit Oct. 9.  We left London by Jet the next day so did not get back to Kingston."

Mrs. Ward, Lil, was a kind, friendly woman with a keen sense of humor, and a sunny disposition.  She will be greatly missed by the many friends she had made, and especially by Cecil who has our sincere sympathy.
