Fitzel, Ione (5 JAN 1916 - 16 OCT 2012)

Ione Fitzel, age 96, of Colby, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at her home in Colby. A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, October 19, 2012 at the First United Church of Christ in Colby. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Ione was born January 5, 1916 to Otto and Minnie (Pacholke) Witte outside of Colby. After graduating high school she received a teaching degree from Wausau Normal School. Ione was joined in marriage to Adam Fitzel on June 19, 1937 at the First United Church of Christ in Colby. Ione was a teacher for several years, after marriage Ione and Adam owned a farm in the Town of Hull. After farming they moved into Colby, she worked for the cheese box facility and then later helped at the high school in the kitchen.

Ione was an active member of the First United Church of Christ and the Ladies' Guild. She enjoyed stitching, going fishing, and gardening.

Ione is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Mannon) Gustafson of Colby, her son, Galen (Diane) Fitzel of St. Paul, MN, her grandchildren: Sherry, Rosalie, Lorne, Ben, Tyler, and Kirsten; and her great grandchildren: Kyle, Adam, Alicia, Brandon, Jojo, Max, and Brecken.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Adam, and her sister, Madelyn (Melvin) Duvall.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established at a later date.
