----- Lawrence, Alvin (1936? - 22 SEP 1962)

Alvin Lawrence, 26, of Wyocena, a former resident of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), was killed and another man seriously injured when their car overturned several times as a state patrol officer was about to pursue them near Wyocena Saturday evening, Sept. 22, 1962.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Divine Savior Hospital, Portage.

The other occupant of the car, Earl Ashley, 24, route 2, Pardeeville, suffered serious injuries.

The accident took place about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the junction of highways 16 and Old 16 at the outskirts of Wyocena.

The 1956 model auto owned by Ashley, left the highway at the beginning of a gradual curve and overturned several times. Authorities said that Ashley was believed to be the driver.

Richard Scott, a State Patrol officer, said the Ashley car was traveling north on Highway 22 and turned west on Highway 16. Scott said he was parked, and pulled away, intending to issue a warning ticket to the driver because only one headlight was on.

Scot witnessed the accident as the auto overturned. He said both men were thrown from the vehicle, which was listed as a total wreck. Coroner Kenneth Reuhl said that Lawrence suffered a skull fracture and other injuries.

Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence were held at Pardeeville, Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lawrence, Wyocena; three brothers, Verne, Pardeeville, Wayne and William, both at home; and a sister, Mrs. James Wells, Chicago.
