Henry Dunow (1917-1999)


Henry Kenneth Dunow, 81, Town of Hoard, Curtiss, died Wednesday, Nov. 3 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.


Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 6 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss with Rev. Lauren Ley officiating. Burial took place at St. Paul's Norwegian Lutheran Church Cemetery in Curtiss. Pallbearers were Rick Dunow, Mike Dunow, Nick Dunow, Sean Fair, Don Dunow, Pat Dunow, and Ernie Skau.


Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford assisted the family with arrangements.


Henry Dunow was born November 24, 1917 at the Town of Hoard to the late August and Marie (Olson) Dunow. He received his education at Park School.


His marriage to Virginia Sheets, who died December 6, 1991, took place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Green Grove on December 26, 1936. They farmed in the Town of Hoard for 40 years until retirement in 1979.


He was the sexton of St. Paul's Norwegian Cemetery for 20 years until the time of his death. He was recognized for his dedication in refurbishing the original St. Paul's Norwegian Church, which is now a landmark, located at the cemetery. He was a board member of the Park School and active in the Curtiss Community Club, Deutscher Club, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a dart ball team member. He enjoyed his garden, orchard, harvesting and canning.


Survivors include, three sons, Richard (Donna), Kenosha, William (Judy), Owen, and Allen (Diane), Marshfield one daughter, Beverly (Louis) Grilc, Milwaukee one brother, Eldon (Lucille), Pleasant Prairie two sisters, Inga Kirschmann, Anoka, Minn., and Loretta Skoglund, Milwaukee 14 grandchildren 25 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild and special friend, Hilda Wetzel.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie Bangle and Margaret Ottery, and one granddaughter, Cindy Dunow.
