Marie Katherine (Boylan) Jensen, 96, Stanley, formerly of the Town of Longwood, rural Withee, died on Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at the Victory Medical Center where she had resided since 1992.


Funeral services were held on Friday, July 9, 1999, 1:00 p.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen, with Father Al Jakubowski officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Visitation was on Friday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen from noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m.


The former Marie Katherine Boylan was born on November 15, 1902, in rural Thorp, the daughter of James and Ella (Neye) Boylan. After her graduation from Withee High School in 1921, Marie received her teaching degree from Stevens Point Teacher's (Normal) School. After teaching in Pittsville for a few years, she moved to Homewood, Illinois. Marie and George Jensen were united in marriage in September, 1932 in Homewood.


Marie's longevity teaching career spanned 47 years. Her dedication touched many young hearts. The Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers recognized her notable leadership and service rendered to children and youth with a certificate of life membership. Proud of her Irish heritage, Marie enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing and an avid reader.


She will be sadly missed by two nephews: James Boylan of Appleton and Dr. William (Susan) Boylan of Stevens Point one niece Patricia Boylan of Stevens Point and great nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband George Jensen in August 1972 and 3 brothers: Carey Boylan, Kenneth Boylan and James Boylan.


Maurina Funeral Home of Owen assisted the family with arrangements.
