LEROY METCALF IS ACCIDENT VICTIM


NEILLSVILLE Funeral services will be conducted Monday for Leroy Metcalf, 59, rout 3, Greenwood, Clark County, chairman of the town of Reseburg, who was killed Thursday in a tractor accident on his farm.


According to investigation officers, Metcalf was backing a tractor and spreader into a storage area under one corner of his barn. It is believed his foot may have slipped from the clutch pedal and he was pinned between the barn and the steering wheel of the tractor, causing chest injuries.


Mrs. Metcalf found the body within minutes after the accident. A neighbor, Lawrence Suda, released the body from the tractor.


The funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Pacifico Camarin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery.


Visitation may be made at Hill Funeral Home, Greenwood, from Sunday afternoon until 11 a.m. Monday and then at the church.


Mr. Metcalf was born July 20, 1911 in the town of Reseburg, and attended Oakland School and Greenwood High School.


He was married to Grace Longridge Aug. 2, 1935 in Hayward. The couple operated a farm near Greenwood until 1937, when they purchased the present farm on Route 3, Greenwood, where they had since made their home. He was part time operator for the town of Reseburg roads and had trucked milk to the Greenwood Milk Products Co-op for a number of years.


He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and had served on its consistory. He had served as chairman of the town of Reseburg for the past eight years, clerk of the Oakland school district, and was a member of the Rock Dam Conservation Club.


Survivors include his wife two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Joan) Groenke, Minneapolis Miss Carol Metcalf, Sheboygan a son, Ronald Metcalf, Excelsior, Minn. three grandchildren a sister, Mrs. Bertha Dallman, Greenwood two brothers, Dale Metcalf, Random Lake, Wis. and Everett Metcalf, Moscow, Idaho and his mother, Mrs. James Metcalf, Greenwood.
