SOPHIE SHEFCHIK 


Funeral services for Sophie Shefchik, 77, of 305 South Main St., Loyal, Clark County, who passed away at 2:40 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 1977, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, were conducted at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal.


Rev. Chester Osowski officiated and interment was made in the parish cemetery.


A P.C.C.W. rosary was held on Tuesday, July 12 at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m.


Sophie Croell was born to William and Minnie Croell in Chili on Sept. 27, 1899, and received her education at rural Chili schools. She was married to Williams Martens on June 23, 1919 at Bakerville. They lived in the Chili and Lindsey area until moving to Loyal in 1938, where they farmed in the Town of Loyal. They moved to Greenwood in 1945 and farmed in the Town of Warner.


On Nov. 22, 1951, she was married to Charles Shefchik at Greenwood. They moved to Loyal in 1960 and lived in retirement.


She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its altar society.


She is survived by five sons, William of Marshfield, Richard of Loyal, Hilbert of Junction City, Theodore of West Allis and Timothy of Milwaukee six daughters, Mrs. Lee (Helen) Garbush of Loyal, Mrs. Erland (Dorothe) Westberg of Prineville, Ore., Mrs. Robert (Jean) Michalski of Marshfield, Mrs. Emil (Della) Podobnik of Willard, Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Kruger of Las Vegas, Nev. And Mrs. Richard (Judy) Benorett of Sussex two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Gilernick of Marshfield and Mrs. Ann Jaeger of Campbellsport one brother, Richard Croell of Lawler, Iowa 35 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, William, who passed away in 1945 five sisters and two brothers.


Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal was in charge of arrangements.
