EDWIN WILLIAM ABEL


Greenwood Services for Edwin William Abel, 74, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, Clark County, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hill Funeral Home. Mr. Abel died early Thursday morning, July 11, 1974, at his home. He had been dismissed Wednesday from the Neillsville Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.


The Rev. Lee H. Holmes, retired Methodist minister from Marshfield, will conduct the services, and burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations may be made at the Hill Funeral Home beginning this afternoon (Friday) until time of services on Saturday.


Mr. Abel was born July 7, 1900 in the Town of Eaton and received his education in the Greenwood Schools. Following his marriage to the former Fern Vine on Sept. 25, 1929, at Greenwood, the couple settled on a farm 2 miles west of Greenwood, where they had resided since.


Survivors include his wife, a son, Richard, Greenwood, three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Shirley) Christopherson, Greenwood, Mrs. Timothy (La Verne) Martens, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Donald (Joan) Kovisto, Lake Nebagamon a brother, Theodore, Greenwood, and 11 grandchildren.

Abel, Edwin William (7 July 1900 – 11 July 1974)

Edwin William Abel, 74, lifelong resident of Greenwood, died at his home early last Thursday morning of acute myocardial infraction. He had been dismissed Wednesday from the hospital in Neillsville, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Mr. Abel, son of William and Meta (Schwarze) Abel, was born July 7, 1900, in the Town of Eaton. He received his education in the Greenwood schools. He was married September 25, 1929, in Greenwood to Fern Vine, who survives. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm two and one-half miles west of Greenwood and had lived there since.

Surviving besides his wife are: a son, Richard, of Greenwood; three daughters: Mrs. Gordon (Shirley) Christopherson of Greenwood, Mrs. Timothy (LaVerne) Martens of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Donald (Joan) Kovisto of Lake Nebagamon; 11 grandchildren and a brother, Theodore Abel of Greenwood.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Lee Holmes of Marshfield officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
