Gordee, Harry William (1891 - 1966)


GREENWOOD--Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church here for Harry William Gordee, 74, Greenwood, Clark County, who died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1966 in the Veteran's Hospital at Madison. The Rev. Arvid Myhrwold will officiate, and burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.


The body will repose at the Hill Funeral Home here from Thursday afternoon until 11 a.m. Friday, and then at the church.


Mr. Gordee was born Sept. 25, 1891, at Browntown. His marriage to Stella Hium took place Feb. 26, 1920, at Greenwood. After their marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Greenwood until their retirement 10 years ago, when they came to the city of Greenwood.


Mr. Gordee was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Greenwood, and a charter member of the Wallis-Hinker American Legion Post 238.


In addition to his wife, survivors are three sons, Calvin, Marshfield Earl, Greenwood and Everett, Milwaukee four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Verla) Rear, Milwaukee Mrs. Raymond (Agnes) Biernat, Asheville, N.C. Mrs. Melvin (Beulah) Alperstett, Greenwood and Miss Avis Gordee, at home three sisters, Mrs. Cora Hanson and Mrs. Leda Elmer, Monroe and Mrs. Fernie McGuire, Madison and 19 grandchildren.


A sister preceded him in death.
