Jahnke, Werner (1913 - 1990)


Werner W. Jahnke, 77, Neillsville, died Friday, Nov. 9, 1990, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 12, 1990, at 1 p.m. at Gesche Funeral Home, Inc., Neillsville. Rev. Thomas LaChapelle officiated and burial was in the Windfall Cemetery. Family and friends served as pallbearers.


Werner W. Jahnke was born April 24, 1913, to Karl and Greta (nee Hoppner) Jahnke, in Hokendorf, Germany. He came to the United States in 1929, and settled first in Chicago, Ill., and worked as a general laborer. He was married to Edna Scharf in Granton. He came to Neillsville and farmed with his parents for a short time before moving back to Chicago. Later he returned to Neillsville. He married Elsie Lautenbach, Oct. 4, 1952, in Granton. After his marriage they moved back to Chicago in 1952, where he worked for Robertson Photo and retired from there in 1976. He then returned to Neillsville.


Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Florence) Wallace, Beloit two step-daughters, Mrs. Frank (Virginia) Paun, Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Geraldine Hoaglund, Sandwich, Ill. two step-sons, Robert Larson, Neillsville, and Donald Scharf, Granton 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, and one brother.


Gesche Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
