Hoffman, Mayme A. (1893 - 1990)


Mayme Hoffman, 96, Neillsville, died Monday, Feb. 5, 1990, at 9:35 a.m. at Neillsville Memorial Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, 1990, at 2 p.m., at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. Rev. Richard F. Weber will officiate. Visitation will be at Gesche Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Felser, Charles Neff, Clarence Schlinkert, Julius Hagedorn, Mark Hemp and Gerhardt Scheel.


Mayme (Hemp) Hoffman was born March 24, 1893, in the town of Weston, to Albert and Anna (Dudei) Hemp. She received her education at the Fairview School in the town of Weston. After her education she worked in Neillsville at the bakery and at a grocery store for a few years. She then worked in Milwaukee and later in Chicago, Ill. She married William Hoffman on Oct. 17, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. They lived in Chicago for several years, then returned to Neillsville in the early 1960 s, where they retired. Her husband died Nov. 26, 1968. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and the Neillsville Grey Ladies. She had been a resident of the Memorial Home for the past two years due to failing health.


Survivors include several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.


Gesche Funeral Home, Inc., handled the arrangements.
