Wendell, May (1864 - 1872)

Died, in the town of Pine Valley, Clark County, April 22, 1872, of Dropsy and pneumonia, May, daughter of J. H. and Julia Wendell, aged 7 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Dead Oh, the terror of this little word as it is made manifest to bleeding hearts of doting parents. Their dear one that their hearts have built bright hopes upon for the future has been called away. Vain were all the efforts made to restore the loved one and evade that felt destroyer, death. His icy fetters hath bound and stolen her away from the little group that were wont to meet around the hearth of home. Oh, the undesirable pangs that come into the hearts of the bereft father and mother as they draw around the table and behold the vacant chair, and that dear form missing. Those little friends, ever ready and willing to assist that mother in her daily toll are forever clasped in death. The little brother and sister miss her, oh, greatly miss her in their playing sports to her they used to look for their childlike counsel gentle, loving, kindhearted sister, as she was to them, her death has brought a wall of dark sorrow upon their young hearts, but God hath called May from them. He doeth all things well. He alone can comfort these bereft ones and cheer the sorrow stricken hearts by his blessed promise.

Depart, dear departed one
We mourn our loss with tears,
Yet one bright hope doth our hearts cheer,
we'll meet in Heaven above.
