Davis, William J. (1909 - 1980)


William J. Davis, 71, passed away on Saturday afternoon, July 12, 1980 at Neillsville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He resided at 1120 Prospect St., Neillsville, Clark County.


Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 15, from the Gesche Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Clark of the Neillsville United Church of Christ, officiated, with burial in the city cemetery.


Davis was born on June 23, 1909 in the Town of York to John and Pleysa (Griffiths) Davis. On Oct. 29, 1932, he married Leona M. Davis.


He hauled milk from the Humbird area to the American stores Dairy in Neillsville for 26 years. He then began employment with Gross Motors in 1957, retiring in 1973, but continued part-time work with the company until his death.


Surviving him besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Shirley) Kessler of Neillsville and Mrs. Michael (Linda) LaNore of Eau Claire one brother, Morris of Chicago and five grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald and one sister, Rhoda.


Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Davis, William J. (23 June 1909 - 12 July 1980)

Funeral services were held on the early afternoon of Tuesday, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, July 15, for William J. Davis, who passed away on July 12 at the age of 71. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated with burial made in the city cemetery.

Special music was provided by Deon Spangler. Serving as pallbearers were Max Feuerstein, Fred Wall, William Erpenbach, Herman Hagedorn, John Weyer, Leland Dopp, Walter Brown and Wayne Gross.

Attending the services from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Michael LaNou & son, Eau Claire; Mr./Mrs. Louis Barton, Mr./Mrs. Robert Barton and Joan Barton, of West Allis; Mr./Mrs. Marion Barton, Gary, Ind.; Mr./Mrs. Michael North, Fox Point; Gayle Schoengarth, Milton Junction; Esther Kraemer, Westchester, Ill.; Mr./Mrs. Leland Dopp, Marshfield; Mr./Mrs. Victor Turner and Mr./Mrs. Fred Hefty, of Wis. Rapids; Mr./Mrs. James Haas, Barron; Mr./Mrs. Clarence Farning, Colby; and Mr./Mrs. John Wyer, Ripon.
