Luther was born 18 Apr 1827 in NY, a brother of Elezer Sischo, another veteran included in this book.  His family moved from NY to Medina Co., OH before settling in WI about 1846.  He married Almina "Mina" Brown in Fond du Lac Co., WI, 1 Mar 1852.  Mina was born 7 Apr 1831 in Sandusky, OH, the daughter of Theodore & Ruth (Collins) Brown.  The couple had 8 children: Jesse 1853, Mina 1856, Henry 1860, Frank 1862, Arthur 1865, Edgar 1869, LeRoy Wm 1873, and Berton 1879.  Luther was a resident of Lamartine, WI, when he enlisted as a Pvt. in the Civil War with Co. I, 38th Wis. Inf., giving his age as 32.  His eyes were hazel, his hair brown, complexion fair and he stood 5' 7" when he enlisted on 31 Aug 1864. He was mustered out 2 Jun 1865.   He was recorded at Osceola, Fond du Lac Co., WI in the 1870 Census, but before the 1880 Census he moved his family to Weston, Clark Co., WI.  He is recorded there in 1885, 1890, 1895 and 1900.  Their children were: Jessie 10 Apr 1853, Mina 3 Feb 1856, Henry 5 Dec 1859, Frank 25 Mar 1861, Arthur "Arty" 28 Apr 1867, Edgar "Eddie" 31 Dec 1869, LeRoy "Roy" 3 Dec 1873 and Berton "Bert" 20 Jun 1879. Luther died in Marion County, OR on 7 Dec 1905 after a brief illness.  When she died 3 Aug 1924 at age 93, Almina was buried next to her husband of 53 years at the City View Cemetery, Salem, OR.  She was survived by 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Their granddaughter, Ruth Tilda Sischo, taught in Clark, Jackson, and Marathon Co. schools for 40 years before retiring in 1971.

The parents of Almina were Theodore Brown 25 Nov 1793-27 Mar 1863 and Ruth Collins 5 May 1794-10 Oct 1878.
