Finnegan, Patrick (28 Nov 1848 - 7 Jun 1928)

Patrick Finnegan, an old and highly respected citizen, died here (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) Friday morning, June 7, 1928. Mr. Finnegan was born at Peele, Canada, Nov. 28, 1848, thereby being 79 years, 6 months and 18 days of age.

He came to the U. S. in 1871. On Nov. 19, 1876 he was united in marriage to Julia Ann Lynch by Rev. Father Lane of St. John's Church in Morrison, Wis. To this union nine children were born, Mabel, William, Garfield. Agnes, Cecelia Margaret and James Joseph having preceded him in death. Those left to mourn are his wife, Mrs. Frank Taggert and Mrs. John Koblielus of Ladysmith, Sister M. Isabel of the Convent of Notre Dame, Robert E. of Chicago and Mrs. Beller Jr. of Waukesha and thirteen grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Frances Morrison of Eau Claire. For seven years he worked at the carpenter trade at Morrison, Wis., then moved to Wrightstown, where he was proprietor of a furniture and undertaking establishment for ten years and twenty-seven years ago came to Thorp, where he purchased his present home.

Mr. and Mrs. Finnegan celebrated their Golden Wedding two years ago in a quiet unostentatious way, as characteristic of his whole life. Content to have the family all at home for a few days. This occasion was very much enhanced by having Sister Isabel with them.

Despite his advanced age, Mr. Finnegan was very active and attended to his business at his shop up to about three months ago. Since that time he has been confined to his bed most of the time, and despite the fact that his children and many friends were anxious to assist in caring for him his one and only choice seemed to center on his dear and devoted wife, who remained by his bedside night and day to the very last.

During all his illness never a complaint was entered and his death was all that a good Catholic could wish to be. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father, and a true friend. His funeral, which was largely attended, was conducted from St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Monday, June 11^th at ten o'clock, interment following at St. Bernard's Cemetery. Rev. Muckerheide officiated, assisted by Rev. Father Gaiser of Stanley.

The pallbearers were: Messrs. James Clark, Joe Gengler, Alvin Truckey, R. J. Brunner, George Haas and Gilbert Vanderhyden. These men are all Foresters and as Mr. Finnegan was a charter member of this order, the Foresters marched in a body from the house to the church.

He will be sadly missed in his neighborhood and community and we all join in extending our sincerest sympathy to Mrs. Finnegan and family.
