Schnabel, Leon C. (11 NOV 1921 - 10 MAY 2012)

 

Leon C. Schnabel, age 90, of Neillsville died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Neillsville Retirement Community under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

Leon Carl Schnabel was born Nov. 11, 1921, in the town of Levis, Clark County. After his education he went to work sawing wood for Bill Moldenhauer and hauling milk for Otto Warren. He also worked for Fullerton Lumber Company in Neillsville for 22 years. He was united in marriage to June Seelow Jan. 1, 1943. Together they farmed and raised their family. Leon was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville.

He is survived by his wife, June of Neillsville, a son, Donald (Lois) Schnabel of Marshfield, two daughters, Sharon (Ken) Kirn of Willard, and Diane (Dennis) Meyer of Cudahy, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Leon is further survived by four sisters-in-law, Arlene Schnabel of Neillsville, Anna Schnabel of Marshfield, Pat Schnabel of Aberdeen, SD and Bonnie Schnabel of Neillsville and many nieces and nephews. 

Leon was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clarence (Ella) Schnabel, Herbert (Dorothy) Schnabel, Lillian Wagner, Velda (Elliot) King, Eileen (Robert) Scharf, Russell Schnabel, Harold Schnabel, Delbert Schnabel and Verlyn Schnabel.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate. Providing music will be Judy Trunkel, organist. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday at the church. Interment will be in Neillsville City Cemetery.

Casket Bearers are: Bob Barth, Franklin Boh, Dan Clark, Roger Erickson, Roger Grottke, Felix Kotcon and Jerry Schmidt.
