Gustafson, Selma (22 January 1888 - 28 March 1966)

 

Mrs. Selma Gustafson, 78, Chicago, Ill. former Greenwood resident, died in Chicago, March 28 after a lingering illness.  Mrs. Gustafson, nee Selma Johnson, daughter of Simon and Mary (Peterson) Johnson, was born January 22, 1888, in the Town of Warner.

 

She was married June 30, 1910, in Greenwood to David Gustafson. They lived in Greenwood until 1916, when they moved to Benton Harbor, Mich., where they lived for 19 years.  In 1935 they went to Chicago, where she had resided since.

 

Surviving are three sons, Edwin of Eau Claire, Mich., Simon of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Leonard Gustafson of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Trygve (Evelyn) Oas of Chicago, Mrs. William (Ellen) Thoren of Bethesda, Md., and Mrs. Robert (Bonnie) Neutzhorn of Bensenville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Johnson, of Greenwood; and two sisters, Mrs. Josie Hubble of Neillsville and Mrs. Sigward Johnson of Loyal.

 

Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago March 31, and April 2 from the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Arvid Myhrwold, pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiated.  Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Raymond, Edward, Harry and Dale Johnson, Dale Jolivette and Lyle Verhulst.

 

The Rev. and Mrs. Myhrwold sang, "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus’ Name" and "Abide with Me" accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Don Warner.

 

People from away who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gustafson of Eau Claire, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gustafson of Benton Harbor, Mich., and their daughter, Miss Susan Gustafson, who attends school in Menomonie; Mrs. Trygve Oas, Leonard Gustafson and Mrs. Henry Berkowski of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Robert Neutzhorn of Bensenville, Ill.; Mrs. Ellen Thoren of Bethesda, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Luther, Mrs. Berry Storlie, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Johnson of Eau Claire; Mrs. Josie Hubble of Neillsville; Edward Johnson of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Sigward Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schwann, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Olsen, Mrs. Jerome Bertz, Mr. and Mrs. David Danielson, Arendt Danielson; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst and children, Lina and Arvin, all of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Felton and sons, Lorry and Lee, of Marshfield; and many relatives and friends from Greenwood and the surrounding area.
