Marden, Stephen (11 SEP1881 - 11 SEP 1959)


Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Chapel of Flowers for Stephen Marden, a resident of Wilburton since 1923. Mr. Marden, 77, died Friday, September 11. The Rev. Lincoln Reed officiated at the services, with burial in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.


Born in Seif, Clark County, Wisconsin, Mr. Marden moved to Centralia, Washington, around 1900, and was engaged in the logging business there. He was a truck farmer in the Wilburton district of Bellevue for many years, and was active in Wilburton community affairs.


A charter member of the Eastside Sportsmen’s Association, he was head cook for the big game dinners served by the club.


Surviving are his wife, Lena, at the family home, a daughter Viola Bernard, Kirkland, and three grandchildren. A niece, Mrs. J. J. Hanes, Kirkland and a nephew, David Wood, Bellevue, also survive.

Stephen A. Marden, 77, who died Sept. 11, (1959), had been a resident of Bellevue, Washington, for 36 years.  He is survived by his wife, Lena (May) Marden, a daughter, and three grandchildren.

 

Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Green's Chapel of the Flowers in Bellevue with interment at Sunset Hills Memorial Park.

Bio: Marden, Stephen (1881 - 1959)

 

Stephen A. Marden was born 19 Sep 1881 at Globe, Clark Co., Wisconsin.  He provided for his family by felling trees and logging.  An article in the 1961 Clark County Press lists Steve Marden as one of the the eleven men who built the dam on O'Neill Creek in 1911 on which the park is based.

 

He died 11 Sep 1959 at Bellevue, King Co., Washington and was buried 15 Sep 1959 at the Sunset Hills Memorial Park.

 

Other Spouse: Martha Garbush who was born in Granton, Clark Co., Wisconsin.  She was the mother of an illegitimate son, Archie Steve Marden (11 Jun 1905 - 29 Nov 1933).  Archie died of a gunshot wound in the lung and liver received 26 Nov 1933.

Lena May was born 29 May 1892 in the Town of Pine Valley, Clark Co., Wisconsin.  She was the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Porath) May.  Her siblings were Anna, Paul, Otto, and Bertha.  The county records show that she ordered a copy of her birth certificate in Oct., 1941.  She had a daughter, Viola M. born 11 Feb 1921 and married Robert "Jack" H. Burnard 27 Dec 1938.  She resided in Bellevue, Washington with her family.
