Erickson, Maynard W.  (21 MAY 1911 – 06 MAR 1963)

Maynard W. Erickson, 51, Loyal, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been admitted on Tuesday.  He had been in ill health for the past year and a half.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Loyal Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Doering officiating.  Burial was made in the Loyal cemetery.  Members of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star attended in a body.  Masonic rites were conducted Friday evening at the Myre Funeral Home which was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. G.W. Nelson and Mrs. Paul Doering sang “My God and I” and James Colby sang “How Great Thou Art”.  Mrs. Byron Zepplin was organist.

Pallbearers were Dr. G.W. Nelson, Warner Berry, James Christenson, Roy Thomas, Lothar Oestreich and Lawrence Davel.

Mr. Erickson was born May 21, 1911 at Suring and moved with his parents to North Dakota as a child.  He lived there until he was 14 years of age when he went to Oconto where he managed theaters. On July 1, 1941 he was married to Leona Rosenfeldt in the First Presbyterian Church in Oconto.

Mr. and Mrs. Erickson came to Loyal following their marriage where they purchased and operated the Loyal Theater until January of 1962.  In August of that year, the theater was reopened as an amusement center and roller rink.  For the past few years Mr. Erickson also sold insurance for Bankers Life of Eau Claire and the Wisconsin National Live Insurance Company of Oshkosh.

He was active in civic affairs, acting as alderman of the third ward and mayor of the city of Loyal for several terms each.  He was also former chairman of the Loyal Community Chest fund for several years.  Mr. Erickson was a member of the Loyal Methodist Church and the Loyal Lodge No. 335, F. and A.M. of which he was a past master.  He was also a member of the Consistory of Eau Claire.

Survivors include his wife, a son, William of Madison; a sister, Mrs. Norman (Melva) Pillsbury, Oconto; his mother, Mrs. Nora Erickson, Oconto.  His father and one sister preceded him in death.
