The groundhog saw his shadow occasionally during Monday, if he happened to be out. So we can have 6 more weeks of winter or more.

Geo. Brown, living 4 miles north of here died Thursday morning and his body was taken on the train to his former home where he was buried. A short funeral service was held at the house Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, many neighbors attending. Geo. Brown was a man of quiet habits and a good farmer as long as he was able to work. He came to his farm about 13 years ago and with the help of his boys, converted a wilderness into a farm. For the last 3 years he has been sickly and finally had to take to bed with cancer of the stomach of which he died.

The meeting of the stockholders of the Chili State Bank was held Monday night at 8 o’clock. The following directors were elected for the year: W.R. Happe, N. Nebel, Peter Hotchkiss, E. Neinas, John Henning, A. Hogenson, and John Ure. It was a meeting of much excitement. W. Happe was elected President.
