Korn, Olive (10 Jul 1900 – 02 Feb 1975)

Mrs. Joseph Korn, 74, died early Sunday morning at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.

The former Olive Baker was born July 10, 1900, at Eidsvold.

She married Carl Edwardson of Stanley in 1919. He died in 1944, and she married Joseph Korn November 3, 1930 at Minneapolis. The couple then resided in Stanley.

Survivors include her husband, a son, LeRoy Edwardson, Stanley, a daughter, Mrs. Baylon Meyer, Stanley, a brother, Alfred Baker, Dorchester, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Epiphany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Olson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Schluter, Leonard F. (24 Aug 1917 – 30 Jan 1975)

Leonard F. Schluter of Owen died at 4:42 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been admitted January 19, 1975. He was 57 years of age.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee, with the Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the cemetery at Reedsburg.

Born August 24, 1917 in Sauk County, Mr. Schluter was raised and educated in the Reedsburg area, and in 1945 moved to Janesville, where he worked for General Motors. In 1963 he purchased the Happy Hollow Tavern in Janesville, which he operated until 1969.

He then farmed in the township of Auburndale until 1971, when he moved to the town of Rock, rural Marshfield. He purchased Hamm’s Tavern at Owen in July of 1973 and operated it as Whitey’s Tavern.

He was a member of the Owen Kiwanis and the Owen Businessmen’s Community Club.

His marriage on June 1, 1964, at Las Vegas, Nevada, was to the former Donna Ellis Sholes, who survives him.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sandra Kay, of Owen, two stepsons, Lawrence Sholes, Wisconsin Rapids, and Robert Sholes, Marshfield; a sister, Mrs. Kurt (Erma) Spaeth, Hartford; two brothers, William, Plain, and Robert, Cazenovia, and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Schluter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1st, 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, Lublin. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rosary will be said at the Thorp Funeral Home Friday evening.

Senator Tom Harnisch, Neillsville, this week supported a need for a college of veterinary medicine here in Wisconsin.

Harnisch stated, “In my judgment the present number of veterinarians falls considerable short of the minimum number required to serve adequately the needs of the state. It appears also that the rather dramatic and unexpected demands that society now is placing on the veterinary medical profession in non-traditional practice areas will continue to aggravate the national deficit of veterinarians.”

Herman, Michael T. (6 Nov 1951 – 21 Jan 1975)

Michael Thomas Herman was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital, Janesville on January 21, 1975.

He was born November 6, 1951 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, the son of Rosemary Byrns and Gerald Herman. He attended St. Bernard’s School in Thorp prior to moving to Janesville in November 1963. He was a 1969 graduate of Craig High School and attended the UW-Rock County Campus for one year. He had been employed both in Chicago and Janesville prior to his death.

He is survived by his parents, a sister, Michelle of Janesville, 3 brothers, Jery Paul of Janesville, Jon and Marty at home, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Byrns of Rhinelander, many aunts, uncles and cousins of Thorp.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on January 23, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
