Dollen, JoAnn Emaline (27 September 1934 – 23 December 2020)

JoAnn Emaline Dollen, (nee Frese), passed away on December 23, 2020 at the age of 86.

She was the loving sister of Darlene Noah, Robert Frese, Larry Frese (Doris), Jerry Frese (Becky), and Terry Frese (Sharman), proud and doting aunt to 16 nieces and nephews, 21 great, and two great-great nieces and nephews.

JoAnn grew up in Thorp and attended Reseburg and Thorp Schools. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she met and married Bill Dollen. JoAnn and Bill developed a close relationship with their “second family” Tom and Diane Sullivan and their children. She started working for Zenith Electronics in 1966 and worked her way up to a highly respected supervisor. Upon retirement in 1993, JoAnn moved back to Thorp, and worked at Rockwell Automation in Eau Claire for 10 years.

Fondly known as Aunt JoAnn, she was loved by many. She had a strong work ethic, but also knew how to have fun. JoAnn could light up a room with her smile and her sense of humor was immeasurable. She was involved in charity through St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild and Ruth Circle. Helping those in need was important to her and she was always looking out for those less fortunate, be it a human or an animal.

JoAnn loved gardening, especially flowers. She enjoyed traveling and was always ready to go for a ride, especially if it included a stop for an ice cream cone.

JoAnn was proceeded in death by her husband Bill, mother, Esther, and father, Emmet, sister-in-law Corrine, and an infant niece.

Services will be held January 1, 2021 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a private service at 11 a.m. We encourage those in attendance to abide by the Covid-19 guidelines by sanitizing, wearing a mask (if able) and social distancing.

Family and friends may express condolences online at www.maurinaschilling.com.  The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of gifts, memorials may be made in her name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Altar Guild and the Clark County Humane Society.

“The true measure of a well-lived life is not riches and titles, but how well we love…and how well we are loved in return.”
