Another fire occurred here Friday night, which resulted in the destruction of Esquire Raymond’s residence. The family retired in the evening, leaving a lamp burning, but turned low. About eleven o’clock Mr. Raymond awoke, and thinking the lamp was giving too much light, he extinguished the lamp light, but noticed that there was still light in the building. He thought it best to know the cause of the unnecessary light, and a short investigation revealed a fire under full headway, around one of the stove pipes in the upper story. The family was sleeping in the upper story, and if the fire had not been discovered as soon as it was, the stairway would have been in flames, leaving no way to escape except to jump from the chamber windows. The wind was blowing strong at the time, which endangered the residence of Mr. J. J. Kennedy. Flames spread so rapidly that the family had barely time to escape and nothing was saved from the upper story, and but little from the lower part of the house. Mr. Raymond is fortunate enough to have some insurance on his property, which divides the burden of the loss. There was $200 insurance on the building and $800 on household goods.
