Martens, Richard (1925 - 1983)


Richard Martens, 58, of Route 1, Loyal, Town of Beaver, Clark County, died at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, 1983, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1983, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal. Rev. James Logan officiated and interment was in the parish cemetery.

Richard Martens was born on Sept. 13, 1925, at Chili to William and Sophia (nee Kroell) Martens. He received his education at a Chili area school.

He was married to Dolores Mondloch at Spencer on Sept. 10, 1949. After their marriage, they moved to Greenwood and farmed in the Town of Warner and worked for Plautz Brothers until 1957, when he moved to the Loyal Area, Town of Beaver, and farmed.

He was town chairman for the Town of Beaver for 16 years and a member of the Clark County Board of Supervisors for 22 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Surviving him are his wife, Delores three daughters, Mrs. Alan (Linda) Vitkus of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mrs. Michael (Kathleen) Lyons of Loyal and Mrs. Larry (Pat) Nickel of Loyal one son, William of Spencer four brothers, William of Marshfield, Hilbert of Junction City, Ted of Milwaukee and Tim of Milwaukee six sisters, Mrs. Helen Garbush of Loyal, Mrs. Erland (Dorothy) Westburg of Pineville, Ore., Mrs. Robert (Jean) Michalski of Marshfield, Mrs. Mable Kruger of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mrs. Emil (Della) Podobnik of Willard and Mrs. Richard (Judy) Bennett of Sussex, Wis. and seven grandchildren.

A Parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary was said at 3:15 p.m. and a Prayer Service was conducted at 8 p.m., Monday evening.

Robert Michalski, Mike Martens, Steve Martens, Wayne Bennett, Neil Mondloch and Warren Mondloch, all nephews, served as pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, handled arrangements.
