Schmidt, Henry O. (27 NOV 1922 - 19 OCT 2001)


Henry O. Schmidt, 78, Neillsville, Clark County, died on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary's catholic Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Woodrow Pace officiated. Commentator was Steve Mabie. Mass servers were Tony and Tyler Erickson, the gift bearers were Kip and Melissa Schmidt, and the cross bearers was April Snyder. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist, Rita Kuchenbecker, soloist, and St. Mary's adult choir. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Honorary pallbearers were Robin Sischo and Pfc. Adam Snyder. Pallbearers were Yvette Grossbier, Jennifer Erickson and Carissa Griepentrog.

Henry Otto Schmidt was born on Nov. 27, 1922, in Heintown, town of York, to John and Christina (nee Hauser) Schmidt. He attended the Pleasantview School in Heintown and St. Anthony Catholic School in Loyal. He married Marjorie J. Chase on Aug. 20, 1945, in Neillsville. In that year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in World War II and was discharge in Sept. 1946. In 1947, they moved to Loyal, where they farmed their entire lives. He was town of York assessor for many years. In 1994, they retired, sold the farm and moved to Neillsville. He was a member of St. Mary's catholic Church, Neillsville, and a member of the Hagen-Richmond American Legion Post 73, Neillsville.

Survivors include two sons, Jack (Pam) Schmidt, Loyal, and Jerry Schmidt, Neillsville three daughters, Jill (Harold) Grossbier, Onalaska, Jana Lee (LeRoy Oldham) Snyder, Neillsville, and June (Roger) Erickson, Neillsville 13 grandchildren five great-grandchildren three granddaughters-in-law, Yvette Grossbier, Onalaska, Jennifer Erickson, Neillsville and Carissa Griepentrog, Spencer a grandson-in-law, Juston Salisbury, Neillsville four brothers, Joseph (Josephine) Schmidt, Marshfield, Robert (Winnie) Schmidt, Milton, George (Mary Jane) Schmidt, Janesville, and Verland (Dolores) Schmidt, Neillsville two sisters, Sally (Clarence) Becker, Neillsville, and Florence (Eddie) Rueth, Loyal two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schmidt, Pearson, and Betty Schmidt, Loyal and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Marjorie one daughter, Jean Schmidt one granddaughter, Tonya two grandsons, Perry and Trent three brothers, Bernard, Paul and Anthony and two sisters-in-law, Dodie and Jackie.

Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
