Melbinger, Lois E. (10 JUN 1917 - 9 APR 2002)


OWEN--Lois E. Melbinger, 84, Owen, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Victory Medical Center in Stanley.

Funeral services for Lois will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, at St. Katherine's Episcopal Church in Owen. Father Guy Usher III will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Withee.

Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.

The former Lois Ella Mathewson was born on June 10, 1917, in the town of Longwood, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Bacon) Mathewson. She was a 1934 graduate of Owen High School. On Sept. 14, 1935, Lois and Celand Melbinger were united in marriage at the Congregational Church in Owen. While Celand was employed with Badger Shooter for 55 years, and also held the position of Owen Postal Clerk for 12 of these years, Lois was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church and Ladies Guild. She also was a former member of Eastern Star and, in early years, enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother. Her talent was in arts and crafts, ceramics, and she will be remembered for crocheting and knitting sweaters for her family and friends.

Lois will be dearly missed by her husband of 66 years, Celand Melbinger of Owen two sons, Dr. Jerome (Irene) Melbinger of Madison and Dr. Lonnie (Mary) Melbinger of Medford and five grandchildren, Kimberly (Kirk) Woosenkraft of Pewaukee, Holly Melbinger of Superior, Christopher (Brenda) Melbinger of Chippewa Falls, Julie Melbinger of Milwaukee and Deborah Melbinger of Savannah, Ga.

Preceded in death by her parents two brothers, Kenneth Mathewson and Donald Mathewson and one sister, Merna Sullivan.
