Stowe, Rufus (16 Jan. 1892-21 Sept 1961)

Funeral services were held Sat. afternoon, September 23, at the Myre Funeral Home for Rufus Stowe, 69, who died about 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield. He had suffered a head injury in a fall in the basement of his home on route 1, Unity, Tuesday. Clark County Coroner Robert Lulloff said that death resulted from the accident. Rev. Paul Doering, pastor of the Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the town of Beaver cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lester Schuette, Chester Hebert, Ulysses Cain, Albert Hardrath, Alfred Schultz and Gary Scheel. James R. Colby sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd” and “My Jesus As Thou Wilt.” He was accompanied by Mrs. Byron Zepplin at the organ.

Mr. Stowe was boorn on January 16, 1892 in the town of Beaver and has farmed in that area for most of his life. On August 27, 1912, he was married to the former Clara Johnson at Colby. She died July 30, 1961.

Survivors include a son, Glen, route 1, Unity; two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Raatz, route 3, Unity, and Mrs. Clarence (Florence) Braun, Rockford, Illinois; 3 brothers, John and Earl Stowe, route 1, Unity, and Bert, of Idaho; a sister, Mrs. Eltha Pyatt, Owen; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A daughter, three brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.
