Mueller, Matilda M. (September 24, 1913 - October 18, 2008)


Matilda M. Mueller, age 95 years, of Medford, formerly of Dorchester, died Saturday, Oct. 18 at Our House Assisted Living in Medford, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.


A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, with the Rev. Frederick J. Brost officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery. Serving as her pallbearers were Mark and Ken Riegert, Steve Hasenohrl, and Joseph, Jason and

Don Cypher.

Matilda was born September 24, 1913 on the family farm in Stetsonville to Reynold and Josephine (Vogt) Riegert.


She attended grade school at Pleasant Valley School in Stetsonville. She graduated from Dorchester High School and continued her education at Taylor County Normal School in Medford, where she attained her teaching degree. She began teaching at Larson School in the Town of Holway in Taylor County.

Matilda was married to Joseph Mueller on September 27, 1937 in Stetsonville.


She and Joseph moved to Milwaukee and while living there she worked at various jobs in the area. In 1971 they moved to Marshfield for one year and then settled in Dorchester. Matilda entered Our House Assisted Living in Medford in February 2004 and resided there until the time of her death.

Matilda loved being with family and playing cards. She enjoyed working in her garden with her flowers, and shopping. She is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, and a former member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester.

Matilda is survived by a sister, Rose Riegert of Stetsonville, and a brother, Edward (Norma) Riegert of Medford. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, Sharon (Joe) Cypher of Medford, Mike Riegert of Stetsonville, Judy (Steve) Hasenohrl of Rapid City, S.D., Mark (Pam) Riegert of Medford; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford assisted the family with arrangements.
