Margetta, Alvina L. (Shadrick) (February 12, 1913 - March 15, 2009)

Alvina L. Margetta, 96, Pepin, died Sunday, March 15 at Pepin Manor Nursing Home in Pepin, where she had resided the past three years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Burial was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

The former Alvina Shadrick was born February 12, 1913 at the family farm in the Town of Goodrich to the late Louis and Anna (Herold) Shadrick. She attended Goodrich State Graded School in the Town of Goodrich.

On June 29, 1940 in Medford, she married Anthony "Tony" V. Margetta, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2005. They resided in Milwaukee then in 1947 returned to her parents' farm in the Town of Goodrich.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Goodrich Homemakers Club, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Medford Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Alvina had a very loving heart and opened her home to many foster children. She had been the leader of the Goodrich Hustlers 4-H Club and the local Farmers Union. She bowled for many years and was very proud to have a 228 game. She got much enjoyment from sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, dancing, crossword puzzles, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and foster children. She was truly a great mom, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Ken) Wald of Buffalo City; two brothers, Roy Shadrick of Colby and Emil Shadrick of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Karla (Greg Wech) Wald of Chippewa Falls, Kendra (Brent) Zeller of Lakeville, Minn., Kari Jo (Patrick) Finnigan and Krista (Donny) Lettner, both of Stillwater, Minn., and Krag (Shari) Wald of Alma; four great-grandchildren, Brittany and Chase Zeller, Avery Wald and Autumn Lettner; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob and Colter Luff. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
