Lemke, Ervin R. (July 7, 1918)

“Sons Of The Congregation Who Entered The Ministry”

Ervin R. Lemke, son of the late Richard and Agnes Lemke of Immanuel’s congregation in Medford, was born in Medford on July 7, 1918.

After completing his preparatory education, he entered the Missouri Synod Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, from which he graduated in 1944.

He was ordained on September 14, 1944 and during his pastorate, he has served the following Lutheran congregations: Bethlehem in Lawrenceburg, Indiana; Faith in Green Bay; Hope in DePere; St. Peters in Reedsburg and is presently serving Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, where he has served since 1967.

In addition to serving as pastor, he served in Public Relations, Director of Radio and Television and as Chairman of the Stewardship Department of the Northern Wisconsin District of the Missouri Synod.

In Southern Wisconsin, he has served as Circuit Counselor, Chairman of the Stewardship department and on the Board of Directors of the South Wisconsin District of the Missouri Synod.

He has also served a chaplain in the Indiana Feeble Minded School as chaplain in the Wisconsin Reformatory.

In his letter in response to a request for the picture and biographical information, Pastor Ervin writes: “It doesn’t seem possible that Immanuel congregation could be 100 years old, but I recall my mother speaking of her childhood training there, so its roots must be deeply entranced in the past. I am certainly grateful to the congregation for the solid doctrinal base on which my faith was founded at Immanuel many years ago. Its influence has had a marked effect on my entire life.”
